I have previously written about Izakaya Kikufuji. It is that little restaurant located in Makati’s Little Tokyo. I go probably once a month to dine because I love their spicy tuna sashimi and my best friend loves this restaurant. Oh, and I cannot count how many times I have professed my love for Japanese food.
Anyway, click on the link above to check out my previous post. I am just going to include some dishes I love in the restaurant.
Starting off with sashimi platter. I love sashimi, tuna in particular. And I feel so lucky I live near to one of the most popular places to get your tuna sashimi fix. Anyway, this one in the photo is called kai mori awase (Php 730) which, if I am not mistaken (Japanese speaking people, help please) means assorted or platter of some sort. Anyway, this platter includes my favourite (as mentioned above) spicy tuna sashimi, right at the middle. It is raw tuna in Japanese mayonnaise with pieces of fried tempura batter sprinkled with spicy powder. Other sashimi includes tuna, salmon, uni and two more other fish with seaweeds. I can eat this everyday.

Seryna’s presence in Little Tokyo is hard to ignore, especially when it is being flocked by numerous people day in and out. The question that first popped out of my head when I learned I was dining there was if Seryna accepted reservations. And yes, they do. So better give them a call when you intend to.
Anyway, the interior may have been the nicest among the restaurants in Little Tokyo (I haven’t seen the inside of every restaurant, so I can’t say for certain). Some table set-ups were in traditional Japanese and some were normal ones. The place was slightly cramped with a chance of overhearing what the people at the other tables were talking about.

And so we got down to business. Food. We ordered what was supposed to be just light items but weirdly ended up feeling full after.

You know where to get the best dessert in Little Tokyo? If you like green tea and ice cream, I suggest you get yours at Choto Stop. At Php 80, it comes in a 200ml serving which I think is more than the size of a regular personal ice cream cup we normally get from our local supermarket.
Being the green tea junkie that I am, I of course got the green tea variant. I think they have the one with beans in it as well but I just bought the plain one because I do not like beans.

I have not developed this strong liking towards takoyaki in general because I always ended up chewing a lot of shredded cabbages which I’m not really fond of… except for coleslaws. I was intrigued when I read that Hana offers what is said to be the most authentic takoyaki in Manila. Since I actually forgot to try out Shibaya’s, I could not wait to try Hana’s version.
As it turned out, I also ended up eating an entire dinner at this small establishment tucked within the compound of Little Tokyo. We ordered the following:

Japanese pancake or okonomiyaki is something that I am familiar with. Although the food is not exactly a staple when I eat Japanese dishes, I have tasted a few but found those just okay. A food that I’d probably not crave for.
That was not until a few weeks ago. Little Tokyo, as it happened, is quite near to where I live. I have heard about Kagura but never really saw where it was from the outside of Little Tokyo. I didn’t even know there was an entire world inside the compound. I thought the area was just composed of establishments along the streets of Makati.
