Bicolano Dishes at Waway’s Restaurant in Legazpi

Posted on October 20th, 2011 by Kristel

I believe this was where we found the most authentic Bicolano cuisine available in Legazpi. It is actually not clear to me anymore the direction to go to the restaurant because I remember that we hailed for a cab (or a tricycle – yes, this happened one time). It is a self service type of establishment where dishes are laid out and all you have to do is take a peek and determine whether you want to be served that food or not.

Bigg’s Diner in Legazpi, Albay

I am not entirely sure if Bigg’s Diner is of Bicol roots but this was the first place we dined in when we traveled to Legazpi. Located at Embarcadero, Bigg’s provided us with that 50s diner ambiance as well as a quirky interior restaurant finish down to their menu, which to sum up, composed of mostly comfort food.

1st Colonial Grill’s Sili Ice Cream

My taste buds are discerning when it comes to spicy food. I can tolerate spicy food quite well but not all kinds. And truth of the matter is, I do not know how my tongue picks whichever it can tolerate or not. I can dig in a plate of kimchi with no problem but it would be difficult for me to consume something that has a lot of Tabasco sauce in it. I do not get it.

Indonesian food, as of this day, I found to be the spiciest type of food I have tasted in my life. Yes, it trumped Korean and Thai. What I once requested to be a little spicy from a food court in Jakarta turned out to be more than what I can take. I was so full from drinking too much water just to get my tongue out of that burning sensation.

Since the sprouting of Starbucks in almost every corner from where I live and work, whenever I go out of town, I try as much as possible to look for a cozy place to just hang-out whenever I felt the need for it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Starbucks, but I also love trying out new things and when I travel, I try to go as local as possible.

Places to See in Legazpi, Albay

Posted on October 5th, 2011 by Kristel

I mentioned that I’ll try to describe the sights we have gone with a tiny more details for better understanding. As previously mentioned as well, we rented a van for the whole day (Php 3,500 if I remember it right, 8 hours for around 10 people). I am not sure how inconvenient it will be to commute on your own if ever you decide to, except wheng heading to Mayon Rest House and Tiwi which are quite far from where we stayed at in Legazpi. It probably took us an hour per way to go to those places. I suggest if you are a big group, it is definitely advisable to just rent a van. This way, you may dictate the places and pace you prefer.
