The Spiral Buffet Experience by Sofitel Manila

Posted on December 26th, 2012 by Kristel

I am sure by now you have heard that Spiral has reopened. I have read a few of the media releases and some blogs about the launch and I have been meaning to try it ever since. Luckily, I got an assignment to write about it on When in Manila (read about the post I wrote here).

Posted on October 6th, 2012 by Kristel

Yes, it has reopened! So ramen lovers, rejoice! It is back and so is my longing for Japanese food. My dear best friend picked me up to have lunch because of our shared Japanese craving a few nights prior. So finally, I was able to try their lunch sets which is more value for money since an order is Php 380.

Katsu Love at Yabu

Posted on September 23rd, 2012 by Kristel

I am not one to like pork. I have been consuming too much pork my whole life because I used to be cautious of what I eat due to so many allergies. Now that I have freedom on what I want to eat (I do live on anti-histamines though), I try to stay away from pork (and beef except steaks) as much as I can. But I read so many great things about this katsu place which apparently serves the best there is in the country.

Katsu actually means cutlet thus it is varied and comes in different types of meat such as pork and chicken. And today, it is one of the most common dishes in Japanese cuisine. If you would consider making a stopover in Japan a visit, then I have done so too many times. The sad thing is, I have never bothered trying out any food in their airports, so I really would not know if what we have here at Yabu is at par at how they prepare their katsu in Japan. But let me tell you this, Yabu made me crave for pork.

Japanese Food and Sake Night at Geisha

Posted on April 10th, 2012 by Kristel

Saying I love Japanese food is an understatement. If there was a more intense adjective than love then probably that would aptly describe how much I like Japanese food. It is really one of my favourite dishes to eat (competing against Italian, but it’s difficult to choose just one). Anyway, when I got an invite about a Sake Night, I was intrigued. It ended up to be pairing the food with a specific kind of sake. I have never tasted so much variety of sake in my entire life until that night.

Hats Off to the Japanese!

Posted on March 21st, 2011 by Kristel

In the midst of the devastation that has happened (and still happening) in Japan, I have been silent. For one, I couldn’t believe what happened. Watching CNN play videos of tsunami, tsunami victims, earthquake, and heartbreaking stories has led me to be in low spirits lately. Now I have read that 6 Fukushima workers were exposed to radiation equivalent to having 10 chest x-rays per hour. It’s really disturbing.

For a selfish reason, I do want Japan to rebuild as quickly as possible because the closest I have gone to their land is setting foot on their airports (Tokyo, Narita and Osaka). I have heard beautiful things about the country and it has been a lifelong dream of mine to visit. Considering the cost is almost equivalent to travel to Europe given how high their standard of living is, I always ended up traveling some place else.
