Lunch Sets at Ukokkei Ramen Ron

Posted on October 6th, 2012 by Kristel

Yes, it has reopened! So ramen lovers, rejoice! It is back and so is my longing for Japanese food. My dear best friend picked me up to have lunch because of our shared Japanese craving a few nights prior. So finally, I was able to try their lunch sets which is more value for money since an order is Php 380.

There were four kinds to choose from if I remember it correctly. We chose the following:

Set A – choice of ramen (pork slice type in miso, shoyu or shio), 4 pieces pork gyoza, small side salad and a serving of chahan (fried rice).

Dell had the miso ramen. It was plain noodles in miso soup with a few slices of pork. The gyoza was perfectly steamed and then lightly fried. The side salad was a combination of macaroni and cabbage in Japanese mayonnaise. The chahan was nothing special but tasty and soft nonetheless.

Set C – half ramen (shoyu based only), curry rice, 3 pieces of gyoza and side salad.

You can’t really pick which type of ramen you would want for this set. The curry rice was pretty good though. For those who like strong flavoured food, this would be a good thing to order. The rice was also very good, it was really soft and served hot.

You may ask for a complimentary glass of iced Japanese tea (one serving). I did not go into so much description on the taste of the ramen because I did a post on this before. For those who have not read, click here. The servings of the lunch sets may also be good for 2 light eaters to be honest. I was not able to finish my set because I could hardly breathe from too much carbs. Now, I wonder if the set can actually be shared by 2 people (if you refer to my previous post, this establishment had quite strict rules, although I’m not sure if they still do until now).

I hope the next time I come back, their air-conditioning is fixed. It was so hot when we ate there that we did not see the point of ordering a bowl of ramen anymore. But, of course we did because that is what you order when in Ukokkei. I am sure I will crave for their ramen soon enough when it rains.
